Europe confirmed as leader in global e-commerce
According to the Ecommerce Europe Association, Europe will remain the largest e-commerce market in the world in 2012 with an expected turnover of €305 billion, followed by the United States.
European online revenue is expected to grow around 22% in 2012. Online purchases are increasing explosively, in particular in Southern and Eastern Europe. Countries such as Poland and Czech Republic have expected growth figures ranging between 25% to 30%.
In the coming years growth of online sales will largely be determined by the growing adoption of mobile commerce. In the United Kingdom, m-commerce is forecast to surpass 10% of total online sales in 2012. In Scandinavia, the share is estimated to reach 8% and 3% in France. By way of comparison: the share of m-commerce in the United States is estimated to reach close to 10% almost double the size as in 2011.
